A great source of knowledge on a subject that is often neglected by the Indian community. A job well done by Dr Sharma. It captures the Indian way of thinking so well. I am half way through the book and loving it.
The author's perspective - to look at the mental health challenges - challenges the image maintained by many in the Indian community most Indians do not have mental health issues. The reality is quite different. In a population of 1.3 billion people, statistically, there are going to be folks who cover the whole gamut. This book identifies many common types of mental health issues prevalent in the community. That the author is of Indian descent certainly helps give an insider's look on issues that could perplex outsiders.
The Indian Diaspora Handbook by Dr. Greesh Sharma is an excellent read for those interested in or involved in the mental health community. Dr. Sharma, a psychologist of Indian origin, provides a unique blend of history and insight into the types of mental health issues that affect the Indian community worldwide, from alcoholism, to domestic violence, depression, anxiety, learning disabilities, parent-child issues, troubled marriages, etc.
Dr. Sharma's book analyzes the Indian community's reluctance to obtain help, but nevertheless provides helpful, practical solutions to these problems in an easy to read, straightforward manner.
